Springfield is the most populous city in Hampden County, Massachusetts, United States. Springfield sits on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River near its confluence with three rivers: the western Westfield River, the eastern Chicopee River, and the eastern Mill River. At the 2020 census, the city’s population was 155,929, making it the third most populous city in the U.S. state of Massachusetts and the fourth most populous city in New England after Boston, Worcester, and Providence.

About Western New England University

Western New England University was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1919. Begun as the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, known as Springfield-Northeastern, the University was originally established to offer part-time educational opportunities for adult law, business, and accounting students. In 1951, an autonomous charter was obtained to grant and confer the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws degrees. The Springfield Division of Northeastern University was renamed Western New England College. The present campus on Wilbraham Road was purchased in 1956, with the first building, today’s Emerson Hall, opening in 1959.

About Northeastern University

Northeastern University is a large, highly residential university that is composed of ten colleges, including the Northeastern University School of Law. The university’s main campus in Boston is located in the city center along Huntington Avenue and Columbus Avenue near the Fenway–Kenmore and Roxbury neighborhoods. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs, and most undergraduates participate in a cooperative education program. Northeastern is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education and is a Boston Consortium for Higher Education member. It is classified among “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity“.
